Laurenn Prater Barker

Laurenn (Mimi to the grandkids) is a lifetime artist and writer having spent more than 30 years in the fields of graphic design and publishing.  Her career in public communications has incorporated design, illustration, photography and writing. She has produced more than 100 multi-page publications, has been Art Director/Photographer for four magazines and has produced six other books in addition to the Lae Lae™ books.  . 

Ms. Barker is writing, illustrating and publishing the Lae Lae book series to promote positive attitudes and behaviors in preschool children. There are currently eight books in the series with more in the works. Her books are being developed for ages two to six.

Laurenn is also a mother and grandmother and has been involved extensively in the areas of children’s development on a volunteer basis with public and private organizations.  She has served on the boards of organizations dedicated to child and family welfare in three states and she is an activist in the areas of children's and animal rights and the environment.  Much of her artistic and photographic work focuses on these subjects. She has training in Expressive Arts Therapy and is a member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association.  She is also a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Publishers and Writers of San Diego, the Independent Book Publishers Association and the Greater San Diego Reading Association.

Laurenn is also an accomplished sculptor whose work has been featured in publications throughout the United States and abroad.  Many of her collections and commissions are of mothers and children. Her sculptures can be seen at http://www.expressionsstudio.net.

A portion of the proceeds of the Lae Lae™ collection is donated to child welfare, animal welfare and environmental causes.
