Who Influences Us

My Mimi and Grandmother (two of the most special people in my life)
Hi! It's Zoe. When I grow up I want to be a writer and an architect. My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Cuate, writes chapter books. When I found out she was going to be my teacher, I was excited. I wanted to learn how to be a good writer. Throughout this school year, I have been influenced by my teacher to write many good stories.

What about you? Do you know anyone that does anything you want to do when you grow up? Maybe you could ask them advice on how to do well in their job, like I did with my teacher. Let's learn how to be successful!

You can be influenced by people with nice personalities too. Do you get influenced by your parents because they are so kind and they take good care of you? I know I do. And are you influenced by your grandparents? Both of my grandmothers are generous and donate to charities. They influence me to be generous to causes. I work hard to help raise money for charities, like Leukemia, for my school.

Are you friends with someone because they're nice to other people and they let anyone join in their games? For me, there's no doubt about it, I like people who are nice to others. You see, there are so many people that influence us.

You can influence people too. Try to be someone your little brother or sister looks up to. If you are responsible and you show respect to others, maybe, you will have a few admirers.

Let's look over today's blog. We learned that if there's someone that influences us in a good way, such as a job that they do, don't be afraid to ask them how to do it well. In life, also stick with people, such as a friend, who influences you because of their nice personality. Last, but not least, influence people yourself. Show everyone how good a person you can be by thinking of others and being kind to them.

Well, that's all. Don't forget I'm all ears for what you have to say. Bye!

 My Little Cousin

Hi, it's Zoe. Do you have a younger brother or sister? I don't have a younger sibling, but I do have younger cousins, one of them named Enzo. I'd like to talk about the first time I met Enzo.

When I first met Enzo I was in Las Vegas for Christmas holiday. The only other times I had seen him were during Skype calls. Skype is a way you can speak and see people on your computer who don't live close by. When I met Enzo my mommy said I had to be very gentle with him because he was much younger than me. He was still in a baby stroller. She also told me to be a big girl and keep my eyes on him when grownups were talking so he wouldn't wander off. I tried to be a very big girl at 8 years old and do everything my mommy said. It was a hard job, but I was glad I accomplished it because when I took care of Enzo, I also had lots of fun.

Enzo loved to play games like peek-a-boo and tickle monster. He really seemed to like doing the same stuff I liked to do. I remember the grownups thought I was being very mature when I got along so well with Enzo. The best part was that Enzo really liked me and he and I had lots and lots of fun. I love my little cousin.

I think we should all be nice to kids younger than us, if they are our brother or sister, cousin, or neighbor, or someone we have just met in the park. We need to treat smaller children kindly. They might be more fun than you expect. If you'd like to share a story about a someone younger like Enzo  with me leave a comment. Bye!

Breaking A Bad Habit

Hi! It's Zoe. Today I'd like to talk about bad habits. I for one bite my fingernails and I want to change this habit. I asked a couple people what their bad habits are. One said leaving a mess everywhere and the other said biting their nails like me. Here is how I think we can change our bad habits.

If I leave a mess everywhere I go, I think maybe I could clean while I play. If I play with my toys in my room, or do a creative activity I could clean up the mess right then instead of leaving it there and let it build up. That would be a good way to keep a clean room. However, that might be easier when I think of it than doing it. But, if I keep a chart where I put a star for cleaning my room on it and after four stars I get to earn more play time, that would be a good way to keep my room clean.

Many people bite their nails. It's a common bad habit. It's also very unclean to bite your nails. Luckily, people invented a nail-biting stopper. You put it on your nails like nail polish and when you bite your nails it tastes horrible! It's so bad tasting soon you will stop biting your nails. I did for a long while, but then I stopped using the polish and now I'm back to biting my nails. I have asked my parents to buy the polish again so that I can start using it. I suggest that if you bite your nails, you could ask your mommy or daddy to buy you some.

There are many good habits too. Getting used to saying "Thank you." or "Please" is a good habit. Drinking water instead of soda when you are thirsty would be another good habit. Brushing your teeth, going to bed without arguing, eating your fruit and vegetables are all great habits to have. Sometimes it's easier to focus on the good habits rather than the bad ones. It's just that bad habits are just that, bad and need attention too.

I know it's not easy to work on the things we want to change, but I think to myself that if I work on the things I want to change it will get easier over time. It's just like practicing to do something well. Practice makes perfect. I want to practice on stopping my bad habits. If you have a habit you want to share with me I'd like to hear from you. Bye!

Fun Run

Hi it's Zoe. Today, I want to talk about a three-mile fun run I went on with my grandma and mommy. It was fun spending time with grandma and mommy while exercising. It was a community 10k run and two mile walk. We went a little longer than two miles. It was exciting seeing so many people at the race. I even saw my teacher and my neighbor during the walk. I was glad that so many  people had signed up. Each person paid $5 dollars to enter and the money went to support the City of Edinburg community parks, and I was one of them.

The fun run was great exercise and I was tired afterwards, but I felt good. (watch the video with me finishing the race with my grandma). Exercise is very important to keep you strong and healthy. Did you know that February is heart disease awareness month? This means people bring attention to heart disease and remind people to keep their hearts healthy and strong with good diet and exercise.

I like to exercise all the time by swinging on my swing, riding my bike, or playing basketball in my driveway with my brother and daddy. I like playing volleyball and tennis with my mommy. As mommy says, "A family that plays together, stays together."  I am not allowed to watch a lot of T.V. and I don't play video games. Instead, I read, make creative stuff, and play with my friends and run around outside. It's more fun than being indoors all the time.

Scientists say that if you watch a lot of T.V. or play lots of video games you get cranky and mad. But if you play and move around getting exercise, you stay happy and healthy.  That's how I felt after the fun run. I like to exercise with my family. Do you exercise with your family? I have some ideas about the things you could do with your family. Try riding bikes around the neighborhood. If you have a dog (or dogs. I have three of them.), try walking him as a family.  You can even suggest that you walk to places close to home as a family, like to a neighborhood park or a store. This way you are getting exercise and not polluting the earth by driving to someplace nearby. Many activities can be done outside.

When you exercise you can even help people while you are at it, like I did today. I signed up for a walk and helped my city's parks. In fact, I plan on doing another walk in March. Many people don't get enough exercise. Try to exercise as much as you can so you can be happy, healthy, and strong. Maybe you have an idea of things a family can do together. Share them with me or leave a comment. I'd love to hear from you. Bye!
