A Celebration of Thanksgiving and Renewal

The December Winter Solstice is a time of thanksgiving for the earth and a celebration of spring to come. This longest night of the year and the beginning of winter also brings the promise that spring is on the way. The ancient celebration of Solstice marks "the turning of the sun" with the days beginning to get longer in nature's continuing cycle of life, growth and rebirth.

We celebrated a Celtic Solstice in communion together and in spiritual renewal - with gold celebrating our sun as we entered and the ancient Druidic sacred colors of red, and green and white in our native pine branches inside.  Dressing in our finest Celtic dress, we danced, sang, meditated for the health of our earth and said farewell to the old year in anticipation of the new one.  We each spoke a vision for the planet in the coming year, including blessings for the animals and of course our mother earth.  We asked the spirits of the children of today and tomorrow to join us symbolically and we prayed for them as well.  As we spoke our visions, we lit small candles and placed them in a circle in the center of our circle.

After the celebration, we enjoyed a "feast" of deserts, hot chocolate and other libations to end the evening.  It was a beautiful time of joining together to celebrate nature's cycles and reaffirm ourselves in the community of all life on planet Earth.

My wish to all is to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful and thankful season of renewal and a little "feasting" to go with it
