All day my "job" was to enjoy some of my favorite things: sculpting, visiting with some of the other sculptors (we all switched off spending days sitting in the booth) talking with fair visitors who were interested in our art and introducing people to the therapeutic art of sculpting. With live music in the background, beautiful flower gardens to enjoy and sweet children to play with I was in "my element".
This past weekend I spent a wonderful two days as a member of the San Diego Sculptors Guild in the Guild's booth at "A Fair to Remember", the San Diego County Fair. A county fair sounds small but, probably because of San Diego's reputation as a tourist destination, this fair hosts millions of people from both the local area and from all over the world for a month in the summer. Our space was, thankfully, not a part of the terribly crowded and noisy midway but was in a lovely spot adjacent to the home and garden center where people came to see the prize winning botanicals and flower gardens, learn about water wise and sustainable gardening and visit with artists working throughout the area.
