As probably everyone who reads these blogs and everyone who knows me must realize, I am an animal lover - particularly dogs (although, truthfully I would love to have a little pig, baby goat or a llama too - and I love sweet cats as well but I am allergic to them so that's out) but I live in a small city in a gated community with a small yard and I wouldn't be allowed most of those creatures so I have what I have - two little "pound puppies" Tinker and Nunzi. Tinker is mostly shih tzu and he was found on the street after an accident where he had lost an eye and Nunzi, another shih tzu, who was given up by his former owner (not sure of the reason - but there is evidence that he was loved by that owner). One of his front legs is a little shorter than the other three legs and he has a little hop to his walk because of it. But it doesn't seem to bother him and he can beat Tinker in a paw race anytime. They are both very bow legged too so they are my odd pair.
They enjoy their morning and evening walks. We walk on the boardwalk by the beach in the evenings and Nunzi and Tinker get to meet all the other dogs while I get to meet and talk to their owners. Everyone gets a little exercise in a beautiful setting.
This is a chance meeting that Nunzi had with a gorgeous big dog who was a gentle senior citizen and also a pound puppy himself (there are adoption groups for just about all breeds of dogs and mutts too). As little Nunzi and the very big dog made friends, it reminded me about how dogs see past the exterior and just know that there is a brotherhood of dogs underneath the differences. My thought is that we should see the world the way they do. Although we may look as different as Nunzi and his new friend do on the surface, all people are the same inside in our needs and desires and we should greet each other with an open attitude of acceptance the way these two did. If we tried it, the world might be a better place.
